My bird
This section of my website will be dedicated to my bird, Anthem.
Anthem is a latina cockatiel and she is pearl, which makes her a rare bird to find.
I have raised Anthem since she was about two weeks old. I hand fed her, so she is quite tame. I did not get her from a pet shop, I was helping the people out that owned the parents.
Starting with birth:
Anthem was born on March 12th of 2009. She was the only one that hatched. It was the parent's first litter and the mother laid about 10 eggs and they couldn't keep up, so the parents were rotating sitting on the eggs.
Since then, the parents have hatched 3 other eggs.
Anthem grew quickly and being the only one in the litter, was a bit spoiled. The picture on the left was taken on March 17th of 2009.
When birds are born, they are pretty small and ugly. They start to develop character when their eyes open.
Eventually, she develops little hard "feathers" called "Pin feathers". Pin feathers feel like pine needles and they eventually blossom into soft feathers. She is blossoming into a beautiful bird at this point and is starting to develop a character of her own.
After awhile, her pin feathers grow into featers, and she is able to fly. Her tail feathers grow in and makes her look longer. She develops a more aerodynamic shape. She eats everything she can and is exploring the new world around her. Her mohawk comes in and she controls it and lets you know weather she like something or not. It is quite interesting to watch her roam around.
You can also see the pearl in her feathers somewhat. Pearl is the alternating yellow and white colors because she's latina.

Now she is a beautiful bird.
